Advanced AquaTred rehabilitation and conditioning for English and Western performance horses — low-impact, precisely controlled, and guided every step by experienced professionals and veterinary oversight.
─── Sonoran Foothills · Scottsdale, AZ
Our equine AquaTred underwater treadmill uses the natural buoyancy and resistance of water to do something ordinary exercise can't: build strength, stamina, and topline while dramatically reducing the load on joints, tendons, and healing tissue.
As the water rises, it supports more of the horse's weight — allowing controlled, purposeful movement long before hard ground would be safe. Adjustable water depth, speed, and resistance let us dial each session precisely to the horse in front of us, whether that horse is returning from surgery or sharpening for the show ring.
The result is a tool that serves two goals at once: bringing injured horses back to soundness, and bringing sound horses to peak.
The higher the water, the more of the horse’s weight it carries — and the less the limb has to. Depth, speed, and session length are set for each horse in coordination with the referring veterinarian. Illustrative only; not a treatment protocol.
The Center supports horses across the full spectrum of recovery and performance. Every program is built in coordination with our program's advising veterinarian and tailored to the individual case.
Post-Surgical Recovery
Structured, low-impact reconditioning for horses returning from:
Tendon and ligament injuries
Joint chip (arthroscopic) removal
Fracture recovery, once cleared for controlled exercise
Colic surgery — rebuilding core strength, topline, and fitness after time off
Ongoing Management
Supportive, low-concussion movement for horses managing:
Arthritis — maintaining range of motion and muscular support without pounding the joints
Kissing spine — encouraging correct posture, core engagement, and topline development as part of a managed program
Competitive Conditioning
For sound sporthorses who need every edge: building cardiovascular fitness, muscle, stamina, and topline for the demands of the competition ring — while protecting the legs that have to carry them there.
Because conditioning horses live on-site, their own professional trainer is welcome on the property to keep them in work — so your program stays intact while your horse gains the benefits of the AquaTred.
Veterinary referral — for rehabilitation and recovery
We work hand-in-hand with veterinarians, clinics, and hospitals across the area — relationships we've built over years and value deeply. Every recovery case begins with a referral: the diagnosis, the imaging, and your recommendations come to us with the horse and inform everything that follows. From there, our team builds and runs the in-water program, matched to the injury, the stage of recovery, and the goal — with progress shared back to you throughout.
Trainer referral — for fitness and conditioning
Sound horses come to us through their professional trainer to build and maintain competitive fitness. This path is especially suited to Western and dressage riders: because conditioning horses live on-site, your own referring trainer is welcome on the property to ride and work your horse — so you keep the program and the discipline expertise you already trust.
On-site, and consistent
Real results come from consistency. Horses in the program live on-site, allowing the regular, multiple-times-weekly sessions that make rehabilitation and conditioning effective. Every session is run by experienced staff trained in equine conditioning and recovery, with progress tracked and shared with the referring veterinarian or trainer.
And the setting itself does quiet work. Our thirty acres sit 2,000 feet above the Phoenix valley floor, where the air is cooler and cleaner than the desert below — a calm, unhurried place where a healing horse can take a breath, relax, and settle into the work of getting sound.5
We're also just nine miles from WestWorld of Scottsdale, home to major Western, English, and Arabian shows year-round. For a horse conditioning between circuits — or one working its way back toward the ring — that means a short, low-stress haul instead of a long one, and a recovery program that sits right where you already compete.
This is a partnership — between our team, your veterinarian or trainer, and you — with your horse's soundness and performance at the center of it.
Most facilities will tell you a horse "looks great." We'd rather show you. Every horse in the program is tracked through our Objective Outcome Measurement System — a consistent, protocol-driven record of measurable change from the day it arrives to the day it leaves.
Baseline, interim, and discharge measurements. Standardized photos taken from the same positions each time. A complete log of every AquaTred session, along with fitness and recovery data. All of it compiled into a clear report that goes back to the veterinarian or trainer who referred the horse — so the professional guiding the case always has real numbers, not impressions, to work from.
We measure the data. Interpretation stays where it belongs: with your veterinarian.

We're fortunate to have Dr. Kent Fowler advising our business. He helps us shape the standards and protocols the Center runs on, and lends his judgment to how we build and operate the program as a whole — the kind of counsel that keeps a facility honest about what it does and doesn't do well.
We're fortunate to have Dr. Kent Fowler advising our business. He helps us shape the standards and protocols the Center runs on, and lends his judgment to how we build and operate the program as a whole — the kind of counsel that keeps a facility honest about what it does and doesn't do well.
A graduate of the University of California, Davis, Dr. Fowler earned a bachelor's degree in animal science and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1977, then spent more than twenty-five years in large-animal practice on California's central coast, specializing in equine medicine. It is a hands-on foundation — decades in the field with performance horses, learning what soundness looks like from the ground up.
In 2004 he joined the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Animal Health Branch, and from 2005 to 2020 he served as its Chief — the state's senior authority on animal health — leading California's response to major equine and livestock disease events and shaping the standards that protect them. His profession recognized the work along the way: the National Assembly of State Animal Health Officials honored him for leadership in regulatory veterinary medicine in 2017, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners presented him its Distinguished Service Award in 2018. Now retired and living in Arizona, he brings that same standard to the counsel he lends the Center.
To add: partner clinics and hospitals.
The people running each session are educated, experienced horsemen and horsewomen who understand performance horses at the highest level. They know what a recovering tendon needs, what a horse building for the ring needs, and how to read the animal in front of them day to day. That expertise — paired with veterinary oversight — is what separates a treadmill from a true rehabilitation program.
For Veterinarians & Clinics
You know your patient better than anyone, and nothing about our program changes that. Your diagnosis, your imaging, and your read on the horse shape everything we do in the water — and we'll keep you current with detailed session notes and honest progress reports, so the horse you sent us is never out of your sight. When it comes home sound, that's your call as much as our work. We'd be glad to be an extension of your practice.
For Trainers & Riding Professionals
Your horse stays in your program, and you stay in the saddle. You're welcome on the property to ride and work your horse throughout its stay — we simply handle the AquaTred sessions and the daily conditioning, and keep you posted on how it's coming along. Think of us as an extra set of hands in your program, not a stop away from it.
